Public Speaking

As a Public Speaking Presence Coach for more than 10 years I’ve come to learn that one of the root causes of the fear of speaking that paralyzes so many people arise out of feelings of inadequacy and a perceived need to be the expert – perfect, polished and professional. And, I’ve found that one of the most effective ways to reduce that fear is to change our mindset from thinking about having to give a presentation to one of having a conversation and paying close attention to how we can be of service to our audience.

Much of the work I do with clients has to do with helping them focus on having a conversation with each member of the audience rather than speaking to “the crowd”.  Even if they are speaking to a large audience, if they allow themselves to speak conversationally to one person at a time it shifts the tone to a much more intimate, collaborative experience.  I often suggest that as they speak to each person by really seeing that person and to think of speaking as though they sitting down across the table from each other having a cup of coffee together.
